It is mother's day tomorrow in France.
And where will I be? Lying pampered in bed whilst my breakfast is brought to me, croissants wrapped in bright white linen, with a glass of champagne and orange juice bubbling gently in the morning sunlight, and the delicious smell of coffee wafting up the gleaming polished wooden staircase?
No, I shall be herding anxious singers onto the enormous stage of the booming salle Robien (terrible acoustics, like a cathedral on acid), for their end of year performance.
I shall be singing, with the other music teachers, a song which we have never rehearsed together, Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade, in a key which was not intended for the human voice ( but for a brass section!) in a tempo as yet unspecified. I discovered this yesterday.
There will be no soundcheck...
Four hundred students will be performing and it will last from 3 pm to 9 pm...or maybe a bit longer.
We are on last!
But I
But this fades to insignificance co
Gaily went we to the vets on Monday to be unstapled. The wound looked clean and see

Ok, nurse advice time. Sorry.
Isolate the area to be pierced and focus on it as a surface only. This will help you do this quickly and cleanly with minimal ick factor. When you don't think of it as your beloved Porridge, but as an inanimate area, it is easier to do what must be done. Poor girl, so frustrating.
I can't even imagine three hours of non-rehearsed slapped together choral accosting. Gah. I'd rather have an inflamed neck wound to have you drain.
thank you for your pro advice...I am putting off the stabbing till tomorrow.
by the way it is only the teacher's "show" number which is unrehearsed. All the students are very well drilled. They will probably be much better than us!
That sounds horrible- hope Porridge get better soon.
My poor husband was attacked by a cat this week - unprovoked. Turned out to be our neighbor's cat which hasn't been vaccinated for last 4 yrs. As 50% of bats examined in this area have rabies, he is not taking any chances and is now get rabies shots.
Good luck tomorrow. Hadn't realised that Mother's day was tomorrow. I always miss Mothering Sunday for the UK, figure that my Mum doesn't know that Mother's day in the States is in May and now I find I am being triple bad by missing Mother's day in France! I will definitely be going to Hell. LOL
Oh, for a moment I thought it was YOUR neck in misery...though that lengthy concert may yet give you one! Good advice from Z, hope you and Porridge will be better soon!
Edgy times ahead. Bon courage!
These are truly miserable afflictions, but certainly not run-of-the-mill. They are uniquen and peculiar, especially when occurring together. I am eager to know how it all turns out. I hope Porridge recovers soon, with no more neck swellings.
J the best idea is to try and profit from all of the mother's days
m-l no I AM the pain in the neck, with all this moaning! I shall get a grip and think positive..although mothers day has already begun in a challenging way by presenting me with a seething mass of maggots when I went to feed next door's cat...things will surely improve, or is it dangerous to say that!
D- thank you
20th C there is never a dull moment for a city girl in the country...but you know about that already dont you...
I'm sure the concert will be hugely successful but you may just need some paracetamol to hand.
All the best with nursing duties. Who will need the bigger cuddle afterwards?
Hope today has gone swimmingly! Happy French Mothers' Day!
Hope both events go as well as possible! And Happy Mother's Day, you deserve croissants & fresh orange juice (tomorrow?)
never mind the acoustics ... what are you going to wear ?
Hope it all went OK. I think the lancing would be preferable to all that hanging around at a French event, I bet nothing happened on time either.
Must be coming to the end of all our trials an tribulations soon, and a walk is calling...
You are a braver woman than I. Not only could I not sing unrehearsed (I can't sing rehearsed as well, but that's a different thing altogether) but I don't know if I could do the lancing.
I hope at the end of all of this, you got your champagne and croissants and Porridge got lots of kisses and steak bones.
frank I was there from two until 11 !
Ms Mac I'm having another mother's day like the queen with two birthdays
amy it went as well as a concert could when there is no monitor for the singers and the over head mikes were too far away!
Tristan, I wore a smile of course
Lucy, I am ready, but P cant walk that far so we might have to take it gently and visit Tea shops at either end of the walk...
Dingo, I think P deserves a bone...I have got a nice big thick stick
