Back to school...in French

I must apologise for my blog silence...
Here is why.
Today I spent the day at the conservatoire with some very talented jazz musicians, with whom I am in competition.

There are 25 places available for a three year continuous training programme, (one day a week), for the diploma of Professeur de Musique. We are 60 classical musicians, 10 jazzers, 12 musiques actuelles and 8 traditional instrumentalists... all after the same 25 places.

We have five separate days of intensive preparation before the end of January, when we take the entrance exam, and the selection will take place. We must perform, demonstrate our mastery of written music (both reading and writing it) and write a dissertation in 3 hours in answer to a question about art, education or philosophy in flowery French prose... I am allowed a dictionary, but not my beloved laptop with spellcheck and online dictionary. Remember, this is merely the entrance exam.

Have I bitten off more than I can chew? My jaw is already aching...

I will keep you posted with the details of my nervous breakdown.

Oh I see. This must be something you *really* want. I'll skip the platitudes, but I am thinking about you...

You're a winner already - what dizzy heights. You'll show 'em!

ms mac, I am trying to see it as exciting, but it is hard to stop swinging into a manic phase.
Lucy, it would be wonderful to loll about listening to jazz records for three years but I can see that the competition is at such a high level that I am unlikely to get in. I intend to have a good go at it though, and hope my french is flowery enough!
Frankofile thanks for your support

Good luck in spades for this, Rosie.

Wow. Good luck! And remember that if you don't get it, it probably means the match is not good and you would not have enjoyed it as much as you think. Missing you in the meantime.
