Here Come the Girls

When new neighbours move in, we like to think about inviting them round for dinner:

This one looks particularly juicy pretty.

But this one is a bit scary. The farmer said it could be a rooster.

But I am sure it is a vulture. Take a look at that neck...

oh, the expression you've captured on the dog's face in that last picture of her :-)

Very much a "What IS that?"

I know caged birds sometimes pull out their feathers. A stressed bird? Maybe just henpecked. (ha.)

I'm with Porridge - gravely suspicious of all domestic fowl after traumatic childhood experiences with the killer hens living next door to my granny.

No, neither vulture nor henpecked, just a cou-nu, like our old Madeleine and Martha. Ugly beasts but often quite sweet characters. I figures the French had developed the strain because the necks were easier to wring!

Gorgeous funny pictures, and the henhouse looks grand!

Jean, P has been looking very wistful since the girls moved in.

Zhoen, the farmer said he thought that the bird was being pecked by the others.
Just as well Lucy has dropped in to tell us that this is a real breed. She is supposed to be a layer rather than a meat bird...but if she turns out to be a he, we will see about that.
By the way, that is no hen house in Porridges enclosure, it is her kennel! She is not often in it, since she prefers the living room carpet.
I will post a picture of the hen house soon...in all its proud splendour.

Dick..I am not a natural Dr Dolittle, but I shall be doing my best to tame this lot. If Benoit down the road can cuddle his hens, I should at least be able to get in the same pen with mine.
I have already bravely collected two eggs, and no one bit me...or even pecked or scratched me...

Perhaps that last one is trying to avoid being eaten by looking unappealing.

It's working.

Heheheh, great story and comments. My first reactions was that it's a strange looking turkey!

Just love the look on Porridge's face at that ...rooster? It is odd!

That neck puts me off thinking about dinner!

Dinner was definitely on the cards from the look on your dog's face ... I can almost see the saliva .. almost.
