It’s my birthday today.
I am depressed.
I am 56, and I still haven’t grown up.
I look at photographs of myself, and my face seems to be slowly melting.
But at least I can still move it, so it is preferable to the other options.
Everyone has finally gone, and as usual the anticipation of being alone is much better than the reality.
We had Dick and his charming family and Lucy and Tom over for blunch (bloggers lunch). Lucy wondered whether we could find a Harry at short notice. Instead, we had Best Friend in All the World and her husband to my great joy.
Always fascinating to meet bloggers in the flesh, I find. The weather did us no favours, and we were all crammed into my living room, but we were still all able to eat and drink…
Best Friend in All the World went back to London only yesterday.
I am always depressed when she goes.
Mysweet is still in Edinburgh at the festival for the rest of the month.
Hey ho…come on Porridge, let’s go for a walk, it’s stopped raining for a moment

Happy Birthday, Rosie! Same day as Natalie of Blaugustine! But alone on your day?
It can be a letdown after the high of lots of great company for 'blunch' (love that word!). Hope you cheer up soon and enjoy yourself. Have a great year!
Find one small thing to really enjoy, and just do that.
Happy birthday to you. Ill-timed birthdays are a bitch but you can always celebrate when your love comes home from Edinburgh to make up a little bit, perhaps?
I hope you have a lovely quiet day. I am mentally toasting you from the edge of the Mississippi River. Roll on Rosie!
m-l, thank you. I am not alone. Darling d is here and has just woken up in time to give me a cuddle and accompany me to the municipal dump.
Z, I did. It was very cathartic throwing away rubbish. I have nevber been there before, it is usually a manly task in our house.
Ms M, yep, when Johnny comes marching home I think there will be abit of a hurrah.
Amy give my regards to the Mississippi (thank you for giving me the spelling) and of course to your sweet self
Rosie, so we share a birthday! I'm so glad.I hope you have a happy day, put on some music and dance every care away.
Oh, only just saw this!
Have a good rest of the day, whatever you decide to do.
ROSIE! I clicked on your post wondering why you hadn't updated in a while and I find this. You somehow disappeared from my reader and now I'm making a frowning face because I missed your birthday.
I hope it turned out to be a good one in spite of what can sometimes be an unsettling quiet after a visit with great friends.
At least Porridge was there to provide some company. I'm sure whatever she was up to that day made you smile.
Happy Belated Birthday.
Belated greetings from me and mine, R, and commiserations on a house emptier than it should have been for such an occasion. I'm glad that DD was at hand, and Porridge (of so brief acquaintance!) And when YourSweet returns from Edinburgh, he'll find you still un-grownup, which I'm sure is exactly as he would have it!
thank you everyone for coming to my party
i'm running to the fridge to drink to your good cheer
Happy birthday R.
from one melting face to another.
t- have one on me
hhb- I'm going to spend more time standing on my head to counter the effects of gravity...
I missed it, and I'm so sad. I was in New York with no lap-top. I hope the depression lifted quickly. I love the idea of a blunch. But don't expect to grow up. At 77 I still havn't figured out how one does that, and I'm still surprised when I see an old lady in the mirror.
Here's a quote for you by Eleanor Roosevelt.
"Beautiful young people areacciedents of nature;however beautiful old people are works of art"
Just think of yourself as art in the making.
Glad you had a great day.
much love,
Lia xx
Happy Birthday! I assure you, it is much nicer to be 56 than it is to be 66!
You are lucky to have had a blogger lunch.
Happy Birthday!
It does get depressing when you think about all the not so positve side of things...
but a cup that is half-filled can be either seen as...
"Damn! Why is it only half-full!"
or
"Hurray! We've got at least a half cup of water to drink!"
Same amount of water but seen differently
And how we see is a choice we all have...
The choice is yours...
Cheers!
Happy Belated Birthday! May you have a lovely year!
thank you...that sounded a bit miserable on rereading...what a patient and supportive lot you are...
